5-Minute Read

Time for a slow grow

Ok, so I may have been busy last month and unfortunately didn’t have time to write up an overview for February, so this article is a double. Months 2 & 3 each added 250 points so we are now totalling 1000 points as a soft cap though someone may have had a reason to completely smash that target.

Sisters of Silence

Starting off with my sisters, I decided that trying to move a unit of toughness three, one wound models across the board without any shooting was a bad idea, so I painted a Kharaon Aquisitor painting this was very fun and the black armour is in stark contrast to the white of the rest of the force.

Next was some basic infantry, another unit of Prosecutors, line being very important to have and having these gives me a good backbone to any list.

The Topaz servals

Next, I finished the birds that I mentioned in Month 1’s article as well as adding crocodiles to Month 3. The crocs were painted with some variety in mind to make the army look more visually interesting as that is important to me.

The final units I added was a unit of Firebrands and a Silent Judge. The Firebrands are relatively standard as they are one of the three units the box builds. The Silent Judge had a bit more work done. The heavy flamer is converted using the basic flamer, the Kataphron destroyer flamer and the special weapon arm from the new armsmen kit. In order to make her more distinguishable I cut down the helmet from a Deepkin Akhelian eel rider to give her a mohawk, this makes it much easier to tell her apart from the rest of her squad.

A quick look at my 1000-point total and I’m really happy with how this army is forming the core is finished so it’s time to add some more elite units.

The force so far

Word Bearers

Moving on to the door-to-door book enthusiasts and the Ashen Circle theme properly begins with a unit of 10 of these fire loving Firebrands and having faced them I have to say their flamers are quite effective against T3 infantry.

Get out your templates

Next was another Tactical squad bringing the sons of Lorgar up to 3, the Warpfire pistols helping keep the squads a threat beyond objective grabbing.

Frontline zealots

We will see next Month what additional burning will happen and perhaps we will get a HQ that can be compulsory.

Emperors Children

Moving on to the Istavan survivors by the Prince and we see that the desperation of survival lead to the Librarians reigniting their powers. An ancient Leviathan who is a former Centurion of the legion during its prime has been awoken and a veteran assault squad is ready to counterattack.

Down but not out

The rest of assault squad as well as a Palatine Centurion were completed in Month 3.

Exemplars of the Legions perfection

The quality of the force continues, and I look forward to seeing Month 4.

Solar Auxilia

All the firepower and discipline of the Solar Auxilia would be nothing without the brave commanders to lead them. The Solars are joined by a Command squad medic and of course the Legate Marshal converted from a Blood Bowl model.

Lead by example

Another infantry section leads to a powerful firing squad for the tercios whilst an assassin stalks the battlefield ensuring that the enemy forces are disrupted.

Frontline infantry

Moving onto the Month 3 submission and we see some air support for the beleaguered infantry meanwhile a pair of Aurox’s means that at least some of the infantry do not need to foot slog it towards an objective.

The forces of the Solar Auxilia already seem to have some variety within the list, it will be interesting to see where they go next.

Ultramarines

Moving onto the poster boys of the setting the Ultramarines finished off the terminator squad that had begun in month 1.

Tactical dreadnought armour

The other unit completed in Month 2 was a contemptor dreadnought with the set being a continuation of the new starter set.

Less tactical dreadnought

With Month 3 being often referred to as March for Macragge the Ultramarines fittingly went for a powerful leadership unit, specifically a jetbike command squad. Converted using the starter set praetor and Ventanus’ banner.

Not marching for Macragge

The forces of the 13th legion are looking good so far, the shiny new MK6 armour getting good use in this army.

Mechanicum

Moving on to the doubled force of traitor and loyalist Mechanicum. Both groups added a couple of Thallax in Month 2. With the loyalists adding another Castellax whilst the traitors gained a squad of Mymirdons.

Beep boop?
Boop Beep!

Month 3 had the traitors add some additional Mymirdons making a terrifying squad of 6 whilst the loyalists continued their robot loving ways adding another Castellax as well as an intimidating Domitar.

Death Guard

Moving onto the Death guard by the Casual and well he may have destroyed the target of 1000pts.

Ah yes 1000 points

Heavy armour

So, the Casual attended the March WHW event and as a result he needed a 3000-point army (or three). Now seeing as how he had a traitor ticket the Death guard was the natural choice (insert original joke about Dark Angels here). I won’t go into detail here as I expect he will be making his own article about the experience but as you can see the army looks amazing especially for under 3 months of work.

Heavy firepower ready to support
Death Guard speedy lads
Terminators ready

Months 2 and 3 are done

And with that we have finished Months 2 & 3 for the slow grow. Again apologies for missing last Months but more articles will be coming up soon enough.
