Slow Grow Month 1
Humble beginnings
So month 1 of the slow grow is complete and the early forces are looking good. Month 1 each player had up to 500 points to paint some players used all of these points others did a little less.
Sisters of Silence
Starting off with my months work my plan was to make a solid base of the army. This began with some troops namely Prosecutors and Vigilators.
As you can see I went for a white armoured colour scheme with each squad having a different colour for the cloaks and other fabrics. Each of these will be based on a rare gem and so the naming conventions will be using this concept. The Original plan was to paint them using NMM (non-metallic metal) but a happy accident occurred leading to this white colour, which I’m happy with.
Next, I needed a HQ so I added a Knight Centura to the force as I need one for the Vigilators. One additional thing to add to the scheme is the basing. I’ve always struggled with basing feeling like I can do more so I went with extra effort. They are cork bases sprayed to look like damaged road and I’m reasonably happy with the results.
Finally, I decided for something fun, so I added in Pursuers. These ladies were converted using the bolt pistol upgrade kit and the one handed swords from the plastic kit. This is to represent cc weapon bolt pistol. The eagle eyed amongst you may notice that there are no animals pictured. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to base the birds I had finished painting them but I shall add them in next month’s collection.
Overall, I’m happy with this start and look forward to next month.
Word Bearers
Next up we have the Word bearers painted by a friend of mine who is a regular opponent.
Starting out with the HQ. The focus of these Word bearers is the Warp plasma weapons unique to the legion, which lose gets hot. This makes the Moritat surprisingly dangerous for the sons of Lorgar as they get full shots with chain fire.
The rest of the month was spent on Tactical marines. A couple of identical squads ensures that the final collection will have a solid backbone to hold objectives.
The overall force is planned to be destroyer theme with a focus on the Ashen circle, (Hence the grey arms) who may be coming up in future months.
Emperors Children
Moving onto the Loyalist EC by the Prince who has decided to take the slow grow nice and steady.
As you can see the Prince has done fantastic work with a gritty version of the third legions colour scheme. The gritty style really helps emphasise them as a force without much in the way of supplies fighting a bitter war.
Death Guard
So moving on from the player who painted the least we go onto the Casual who is semi ignoring the slow part, (as his previous post makes clear) his “Month 1” submission looks something like this.
The Casual has gone for large brick of infantry for Month 1, likely to ensure that the majority of the force is done for his own schedule. A large march of Tactical marines, marching through the mud holding down the trigger of there bolters.
The rest of the force has some meltas who will likely walk forward using the DG trait to fire without penalty whilst the herald will get ready to plant a flag once he gets to the next field.
Ultramarines
The sons of Guilliman are ready to march to face the forces of the Word Bearers, painted by a friend of the group.
Starting off with a Praetor the Ultramarines firing his volkite charger at an oncoming foe with plenty of gold trim.
Then a MK6 Tactical squad and a singular Terminator finish off the 13th’s month 1 hopefully his squad will arrive by month 2.
Solar Auxilia
In a game full of super human warriors, cyborgs and people with unusual abilities you do have to root for the “regular” soldiers. The Tryhard thinks so and he has decided to build a Solars army.
But you know what, they do have tanks. The Tryhard is going for an Armoured Cohort and as a result has gone for Russes with month 1 including some commanders.
I know that he plans on adding some infantry soon so hopefully some boots on the ground will be next month.
Mechanicum
Robo buddies. The final force is from another friend of the blog as well as another regular opponent of mine.
He has decided to do two Mechanicum forces (Kinda) one for Traitors and the other as Loyalists. For Month 1 this is distinguished by the Arch Magos there is a shooty Cybernetica for the Loyalists and a close combat focused Myrmidax for the glorious Traitor.
As you can see the Myrmidax is based on the AOS Drycha model in a really nice-looking conversion.
Month 1 is done
And with that month 1 is complete. Overall, a really strong showing from those taking part in our slow grow. Which army is your favourite so far? I will be back with month 2 until next time take care.
